3-24-09 Pilatespa YBR Focus for March:

YAMUNA BODY ROLLING (YBR) WORKSHOP
26 April, 2009 (Sunday)
10 am - Noon
at PILATESPA

Re-educate Your Legs: Lengthen, Tone and Align for Better Function!

This 2 hour workshop will focus on bringing alignment and balance to all of the muscle groups of the legs. Understand how achieving this alignment results in the unwinding of the pelvis and spine.  We take our legs for granted- they carry us everywhere we go - and when patterns develop, pain results. This workshop is great for anyone, but offers almost immediate relief for those with sciatica, pelvic and hip issues, knee trouble, spine issues and much more! Great for dancers and athletes ...  This work ALSO reduces cellulite!!

$25 Due THURSDAY, 23 April, 2009

Reserve space with Kathleen by returning this email.

12-26-08     A few weeks ago I found myself searching the Krishnamacharya Yoga & Healing Foundation web site. It seems no mistake that I discovered a workshop to be held in the US by the great Krishnamacharya's grandson, Kaustaub Desikachar.  I was able to register despite missing the deadline by two weeks! I am headed to New Orleans on New Year's Day for four days of Pranayama training with Desikachar.  Krishnamacharya, who is often referred to as 'Guru of Gurus', is responsible for almost all of what we currently know as Yoga. To see him in Asana and Pranayama, check out this video of him taken in 1938:

Laura Flanagan

Welcome and thanks for visiting my site!

I first came into my yoga practice in 1992, stumbling upon its mystical magic as a Fitness instructor. I earned my 200 hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) certification in 2004, long after training with some of the most dynamic teachers in the West  including Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, Barron Baptiste, Judith Lasater, Gary Kraftsow and many more. I was fortunate to attend the first annual Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research in Jan 2007 where I trained with many great Yoga Therapists including Larry Payne.

As a yoga instructor, I incorporate both a Yin style of holding poses along with Vinyasa, moving with the breath.  Yoga has brought to me a grounding that I never thought possible. It has seen me through good and bad times ... it is always there to offer whatever is needed, when it is needed. It is stated in the Yoga Sutras that this realization will be had, but only with a very dedicated practice. The balance between strength and flexibility gained through yoga is only a physical manifestation of yoga's benefits. When one opens their heart and mind to the magic of yoga, they soon realize the gains in the physical body are the obvious manifestation of yoga, but this has far reaching effect into every aspect of life. It is said that the true manifestation of Yoga is realized when two things happen: One is that the practitioner feels immense joy that is not a result of any particular material object or other person, and the other is that the gap between one's goals and meeting them is shortened.

As my own yoga practice evolves through my trainings, so too does my teaching and I find myself more and more drawn to the power of breath.  Realizing this,  yoga can be practiced anywhere, anytime, under any circumstance through breath alone.

Where is the delusion when the Truth is known?

Where is the disease when the Mind is clear?

Where is death when the Breath is controlled?

Therefore, surrender to YOGA
